After some challenging years of injury-plagued hockey, Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller announced on his Instagram account that he will be retiring from the game of hockey.
In this statement, he said that it wasn’t a very easy decision to make, but he really appreciates his time in Boston. Miller missed the tail end of the 2014-15 NHL season due to a shoulder separation and in most recent years he has sustained serious knee injuries. The rugged defenseman wouldn’t play at all in the 2019-20 season due to injury and in the playoffs this past year, he was knocked out of this year’s playoffs after a receiving a high hit from Dmitri Orlov. It could very well be a career ending injury.
In 352 career NHL games, the Los Angeles California native garnered 13 goals, 58 assists and 71 points to go with 281 PIMS.
Miller became a fan favorite without doubt in certain circles for his willingness to throw big hits and drop the gloves, even if he didn’t play the flashiest or fanciest brand of hockey.
